Age Restrictions
Various car rental companies around the world have different policies concerning the minimum and maximum age that makes the driver eligible for a car hire. Most major car rentals will rent to anyone over 21. In some countries, the 25 age limit is more common at car rental agencies. Drivers over 60 years of age will typicaly pay higher insurance for their car rental and so will those between 21 and 25.
It is not uncommon to disqualify anyone over 75 from car rental. And there are still other countries and areas where car hire companies rent their vehicles to drivers up to 85 years with higher insurance costs to those between 75 and 85.
Another issue when ordering car rental is the time period one is holding his/her driver's licence. Many car rental agencies will condition the car hire with one, two or three years of holding the driver's licence. Some (especially smaller) car rental companies will not insist on this but it is always good to check in advance.
Young driver surcharge is a fee commonly charged to drivers between 21 and 25 years of age.
