We have recently returned from a 16 day vacation in Fort Myers, Florida.  We rented a car through Expedia, picking the car up from the Alamo car hire desk in Fort Myers airport.  Alamo informed us that no insurance, CDW, personal liability cover, etc had been paid for as part of the rental fee – we were dumbfounded, we have never in 30 years of renting cars come across this before, and our Expedia contract flatly contradicted this – it clearly showed that we had bought all of this.  Alamo refused to accept that we had bought these things, so we had a big problem.  We spent the entire 16 days of the hire being told by Expedia that we had bought insurance, CDW, etc as part of our contract with them; and with that contention being flatly contradicted by Alamo in the US.  Neither Expedia nor Alamo sorted the problem out during our stay, and it's still an open dispute 2 weeks later.  Expedia is in dispute with Alamo, and I believe Alamo US may be in dispute with Alamo UK.  What is not in dispute is that we would have been in a horrible legal mess had (god forbid) we had any kind of insurance-related problem whilst we were out there - were we ever insured or not?  Quite the worst customer service we have every experienced form both Alamo & Expedia.  A very salutary tale – take heed.
