From Rio de Janeiro, where now we live, my husband rented a car that fell to Alamo. All arrangements were made online, including credit card information.  However, after queuing for a long time under the rain – Alamo staff takes about 30 minutes to finalize a pre-booked rental -  a car was NOT given to us under different pretexts. Clearly Alamo was overbooked (an impression later on confirmed by other costumers). Instead of telling the obvious fact that their parking space was empty not only of the brand of our choice but of any other brand, Alamo staff became evasive, rude and unwilling: our national driver license was not acceptable as it was in Portuguese and they were not supposed to read Portuguese- but licenses from Portugal were okay- as Portugal is Europe. US is also Ok despite not Europe as they speak English. Swiss is also fine, despite neither EU nor English (all of these was explained to us in details) .Then, the  lady in attendance began to request more than one credit card to guarantee a car they were NOT renting, while stressing they should have the same name –as if normal people carry credit cards with different names. With things really turning out sinister, and despite that after living in Washington DC for more than a decade,  both of us have  American driver licenses,  we decided our first priority was to have our credit card back (it had been taken to the back of the little office) and LEAVE. Exhausted, we took a cab to La Perouse where the concierge found us a reliable rental company  with real cars to rent. We rented with our Brazilian driver license – as we just did in San Diego (CA), San Francisco and Madrid . We arrived at the Nice airport on Sept. 25.
