Lack of cars in Alicante, Spain

Hello, our friends spent 10 days during the August, 2009 in Alicante and there was a serious lack of vehicles. They said that even people with valid and confirmed reservations had been refused with no satisfaction offered. Does someone know what is the situation this season? We are planning to stay in Alicante for a week or two in May 2010. Thanks for your answer.

Mark, don’t worry. May is still not a full season in Alicante. Many hotel guests are German retirees who almost never hire a car. Also, the situation seems to have improved recently as the major car hires replenished their car fleets. 2009 was a fiasco and they learned the lesson.
