Last year my wife and I decided to make a stop over in Copenhagen prior to returning back home.

For the first two days we walked through the beautiful city of Copenhagen doing some shopping and visiting Tivoli Gardens; however on the last full day, the concierge at the Scandic Hotel recommended us to rent a car and drive up the Danish coastline to visit the Kronborg Castle, take the ferry over to Sweden and drive down the Swedish coastline towards Malmo in order to visit the city and cross back over to Copenhagen via the Oresund Bridge.

First off AVIS did not have a car near our location, thus they told us to take a cab, at their expense, to pick-up the car at Kastrup Airport; they never reimbursed the cab fare.  Secondly we requested the rental of a GPS as we were not familiar with the roads and so forth.  We inquired about the cost of taking a ferry to Sweden and also the cost of crossing the Oresund Bridge; AVIS proceeded to charge us for the tickets to use the ferry and the sticker to cross over the Oresund Bridge.  Prior to leaving the counter we were given an estimate of the cost for that one day rental in addition to instructions on how and where to drop off the car the next day as we had to catch our 7:20 am flight to Paris and then back to the US.

The next morning we made a pit stop to fill the tank as per the AVIS contract and then take it back to where we were instructed to drop off the car, in addition to dropping off the keys at the AVIS counter even though there was nobody there to assist us due to the time.  They basically made it very hard for me to drop off my wife with our luggage at the terminal and then drive to the drop off location where I had to walk back through several terminals in order to get to our terminal; upon arriving to the terminal, my wife had told me that we had missed the flight due to my tardiness; however with the assistance of a real nice lady that was working at the Information desk, she was able to contact and convince Air France into allowing us to make the flight.

AVIS' motto of "We Try Harder" should state "We Try Harder to scam you"; unfortunately I did not notice that AVIS had charged me two times - The first charge was for US$336.26 and the second charge, more than a month later, was for US$166.21.  I have tried to get an answer as to why I was charged twice, but I have yet to receive a reply from AVIS in Copenhagen.  

Denmark is a beautiful country with many things to see and do and it was a great idea to have rented a car; however, seeing that I am not the only person who has been scammed by AVIS in Copenhagen, and there are plenty of other car rental agencies, I would NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY TO RENT FROM AVIS!!

Even though a year has gone by, I am not going to allow this to happen and thus have already contacted their corporate offices in addition to alerting the Scandic Hotel about AVIS' scamming practices since they were the ones that recommended us to use AVIS.
