I strongly advise you take photographs of your Avis hire car BEFORE you accept it.  I hired a car from the Airport and didn't elect to take out the quite expensive additional CDW insurance offered on arrival at the airport, leaving me liable to an excess charge for any damage.  I picked up the car from an unlit area in the underground carpark where it was parked so close to the wall I couldn't see the front bumper fully. On return the AVIS rep went straight to the front of the car and pointed out a scratched area on the underneath of the front plastic bumper for which I was then charged the full excess of over £400!  They knew exactly where to look, indicating it was done before I took the car (but no photos to prove it) and they took advantage of me because I hadn't taken out the full CDW with no excess.  I WILL NEVER RENT FROM AVIS AGAIN.
