I prefer to rent from a regular, non-discount car rental company after one not-so-pleasant experience five years ago. When looking for a good price in Jacksonville, Florida, I was surprised that Avis actually offered better rates than all its second-tier competitors. So we rented a car at Jacksonville Airport with drop-off in Orlando (now I realize that the fact we were renting one-way might have been the reason for Avis being cheapest). Service was satisfactory (I wouldn't say extremely good, they are more courteous at Hertz but we had no issue with Avis customer service). What was the least satisfactory part was the choice of vehicles. To be precise - there was NONE at all. We simply got a PT Cruiser. I'm not a big fan of PT Cruisers - it is a lazy and very basic car and I would prefer a Toyota or other Japanese in this category, but at Jacksonville Avis you just don't have a choice. Otherwise the car was almost new and very clean. My rating of this company is *** (three stars=average) plus. The plus is for a good price.
