I recently rented a car for my husband from Avis.  It was needed for 3 hours.  I purchased it on Priceline.com.  When my husband went in to pick up his pre-paid for car, they asked him if he wanted insurance.  He replied "No... Just keep it to the minimum!"  The desk clerk went ahead and signed him up for insurance at a rate of $33 additional dollars.  He was asked to "sign here and initial here" and he did so.  They told him "your total charge is $33."  My husband thinks "Great...they didn't charge us $99 for 3 hours" and comes out excited that he got a reasonable rate."  When he checks his bank account both $99 and $33 has been charged for the 3 hour rental!  When I called the company to explain, they stood behind the fact that "he signed and initialed for the insurance."  They were unwilling to refund. 

Apparently saying "NO" to their request for insurance is useless.  READ the small print and hold up the long line to make sure you are getting what you asked for with AVIS because they use deceitful practices knowing people don't usually read the fine print at the car rental agency.  And they won't be reasonable and refund the money even if it costs them your business in the future.  Seemed so silly to me.  $33 bucks to lose a customer....
