Nov. 2010.  Approaching the service counter at the airport there was a mob of people, with the line moving very slowly (not enough agents at the counter).  Posted on the well behind the counter was a maze of information about fuel charges--too far away, print too small to read while in line.  Upon reaching the counter, the fuel info sign suggested the "best deal" was to pre-pay through Budget @ $2.72/gal. because the average price in the area was $2.95/gal.  NOT TRUE!  We opted not to take the Budget deal and were GLAD we made that decision.  The average fuel price in all the stations we saw within 20 miles of the airport was in the low $2.70's, some even cheaper.

As for toll charges, it's almost impossible to go anywhere in Florida without paying a toll every few miles.  If you come from a state where toll charges are common, maybe that won't bother you.  But if you're not used to toll charges, you need to bring a suitcase full of small bills and coins, OR be prepared to by the "SunPass" toll charge PLUS the Budget daily service fee.  NOT ONE WORD was mentioned about this during the rental transaction.  In fact, our car was fitted with a "toll-reader" sticker on the windshield, but we didn't notice it until day 3 because we always had the sunvisor down!  Even when we realized we didn't have to stop at every toll booth and pay cash, we still weren't quite sure what charge we were going to get hit with when we turned the car in.  BRACE YOURSELF, because your credit card is going to be charged with all the tolls and Budget service fees several days after you return the car.  You will never get a bill or statement from Budget explaining how they came up with those numbers.  Best advice?  Stay the h... away from Budget in Orlando!!
