| Review of Budget® San Diego Car Rental |
I wish I could give them less than 1 star...We decided about 1 week before our Christmas vacation that we needed a rental car. We found several sites that had good deals, but eventually went with Budget because I had previously used them (a different location) for a rental car. We had a coupon for a free upgrade for $317.00 total (1 week rental with a 4 door car--up from an economy). We showed up to Budget late Christmas night and waited in a short line. The lady in front of us was shocked at the price of her car and kept saying it was not what she was quoted, but ended up finally taking the car (visibly upset). We went to the same employee she did (I believe his name was Tony). He asked me "did we want the ___ dollar per day insurance or the ___ dollar per day insurance"...he never gave us the option to cancel...just that we could pick one. We chose the lesser of the two and when it came down to signing the paperwork the total had gone from $317.00 (mind you, online it said this was our CONFIRMED price) to $492.00. Good Lord! We asked him why it was suddenly so much and his response was that "the online price didn't include all the taxes and stuff". Tired, and ready to get to our final destination, I signed the paper. When I got to the hotel, I looked over the paperwork and realized that the insurance said Optional above it. Long story short, we called the next day---were told there was nothing they could do, that we signed the paper, yada yada until we raised such a stink that we got the Manager. He was very helpful and allowed us to come back and resign new paperwork stating we declined the optional insurance. Other than the inconvenience of having to drive 40 minutes back the next day, it was solved. No apology, no explanation. THEN, to top off our "adventure" with this company, we returned the car a week later. We looked up directions on the iPhone on the way to Budget. We put the iPhone in the cup holder to unload the vehicle and all our bags into the shuttle. We pulled about 10 feet in the shuttle and then realized, OOPS! We left the phone in the car. We jumped out, went to the car...and surprise, surprise...the phone was gone. We called it and it had been turned off. We immediately went inside to tell them what happened, expecting they would go talk to the employees that handled the car in those 5 minutes and were told "our employees don't steal...maybe we left the phone somewhere else". We searched the car on our own and all around it. It was gone. We went back inside and were given a business card by Whitney that said "we could call the number and see if they found one in lost and found". I think all the situations we experienced were handled SO poorly and I will never use or recommend any Budget car rental again. In fact, we have the cell phone company in the process of trying to track the location of the phone. Very unsatisfied with the service, the price, and the way that this facility conducts their business. |
