Subject: Centauro Malaga - Economy Car Hire Beware
Review of Centauro® Malaga Car Hire

Beware; beware, beware ! Following our booking via Economy Car hire - we landed at Malaga Airport about 11:25 hours. We were at the pick up point by 11:45. The Centauro Rep was not there to collect us, as per contract. In fact it took three phone calls & we were left waiting approx one & a half hours. Eventually, the rep arrived at gone 1.00 am. At which point he refused to take all of my family to the car depot. He would only take, my son and myself (drivers). This left my elderly mother and the remainder of the party still outside the airport. We then had to wait for him to unlock gates to the depot and then the office and he took ages and ages to process our forms. He proceeded to charge us £25 pounds per car (2 cars) late fees. We explained that we were waiting for him and it was he who had kept us waiting - so the charge should not apply. He was very aggresive and hostile and told us no late fee - no cars and that we needed to take it up with Economy Car Hire. In fact he pointed to sign on the wall - which said normal hours for Centauro were until 23:00 and not midnight as advertised by Economy Car Hire. Therefore Ecomony Car Hire had given us duff information and as our flights landed after 23:00 - we were always going to be charged a late fee. By now it was getting on for 02:00 hours - we were exhausted & I was extremely worried about my elderly mother and had to pay up. We were also charged exorberant fees for two tanks of petrol. We were then sent out in the pitch black, on our own to try and find the two cars. We could not get out of the depot as the rep forgot to unlock the gates and we were running around in the dark - with a large gang of Spanish youths causing a rumpus nearby. I was very frightened. All in all - my family were left sat out side Malaga Airport in the early hours for almost three hours. To add insult to injury -the following morning; the one car that they had given us, was a virtual wreck - dented all over and I was concerned to drive it. On my return - I complained to Economy Care Hire - expecting a sympathetic response and at least a refund of my £50 pounds. After all their contract said late fees after midnight - not 23:00 & as I had used them many times before I thought I was a valued customer. Instead I experienced hostility and they could not have cared less. No matter what evidence I gave them (including copies of my mobile phone bill showing the three calls to Centauro) they were not going to refund my money. My advice; avoid Economy Care Hire & Centauro.
