yes, you need car rental insurance to rent a car in Florida - first of all, there is mandatory car rental insurance in Florida, but this cover is very low and if anything happens over this limit, you are liable for this - so, it's highly recommended to have proper insurance when renting a car in Florida. It's always good to have full CDW/LDW cover with zero excess. Check also for Theft protection (TP) and Liability insurance.
Be advised, that car rental insurance usually does not cover windshield, tires, battery, undercarriage, roof of the car and lost keys - this can be insured as extra.
It can be very costly to underestimate your car rental insurance.
