Booked on line for 1 month +3 days and got a grand total charge of US$ 1 158.25.  On collecting the car was told I needed extra insurance but I had already checked with Credit card company that use of the card gave the cover I needed.

Desk operative refused to accept this and under prptest and with a time limit I agreed to US$ 1688.93, saying I would follow this up on my return home.  It is not practical to decline to take a booked car and start searching for a different supplier.

On returning the car, undamaged, I had a credit card deduction of US$ 1980.42, complaints to the check in person were met with, you will have to take this up with head office.

Subsequently I contacted Dollar Customer Service in US from S Africa, I was told you signed for 1688, and so you are locked in.  When pointed out that I was actually charged US$ 1980, the answer was "you signed an open contract and the quotes given to you were only estimates and the figure stands.

DOLLAR'S QUOTES BEAR NO RESEMBLANCE TO WHAT YOU WILL BE CHARGED, BY ADDING ON "EXTRAS".  THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE STICKS BY THEIR VERSION OF THE CONTRACT AND READS OUT WHAT THEY HAVE CHARGED (WHICH YOU KNEW ALREADY OR YOU WOULD NOT BE COMPLAINING). IN THIS CASE THE CHARGE WAS NEARLY DOUBLE THE PRICE QUOTED.

I SUGGEST THAT YOU USE OTHER COMPANIES AS DOLLAR IS MOST UNSATISFACTORY.
