Drivers in Montreal seem no to have very high opinion of their driving habits themselves - and they may be right. Speeding is a rather common passtime here (possibly because of the high popularity of Jacques Villeneuve Formula 1 champion) and stopping at the Zebra-crossing is generally considered an European nonsense (don't do it, the car behind you will crash into you). Pedestrians often cross the street on green light, but not as often as they just run on the red and hoping for survival. More importantly, there is a law in Quebec allowing drivers to turn right even on the red light (obviously while yielding from the left side). BUT this is not allowed in Montreal - watch for the relavant traffic signs.
Parking regulations are in French if that helps and the fees for illegal parking are high (especially avoid the zones designated for local residents and marked by red tags).
