Subject: Be careful with Fox rent a car and their car rental insurance policy
Review of Fox Rent a Car® Los Angeles Car Rental
Our first time in Los Angeles, California - our first time renting a car from Fox rent a car and probably also the last time...

We are from Europe and it was our very first time to rent a car in the USA. Our first stop was Los Angeles International airport, LAX.

I have made our car rental reservation with Fox rent a car over the internet, enough time in advance, directly through their official website.
The rental was for 1 month, I think quite a good deal for the car rental company - the price was about 1000 USD for Jeep Patriot.

When we have arrived to Los Angeles airport (after midnight LA time), after about 20 hours journey (including waiting for lost luggage etc.), we got to Fox counter.
The staff was nice, I do not have any complaints to them. Problems started, when they asked me, if I need car rental insurance. I said yes, of course - I thought it was included in the car rental price (my fault, lack of experience - but Car rental companies should take this into account and hilight this on their websites, that even us, first timers would notice this...) - it's absolute must, especially in California, where every one sue everyone for everything...

So, by my mistake, or un-experience with US car rental tricks - our car rental price just doubled - to over 2000 USD for one month rental - this price, now inclusive of car rental insurance - but not full cover insurance - it was just the basic one - if I remember well, it covered us up to 25000 USD - if there was any bodily injury, so our insurance cover would not be sufficient, I am sure!

As far as I know now - for US citizens, who have usually car rental insurance included in their own car insurance policy, it's OK, they probably do not need some special car rental insurance.
Also many US credit cards offer some kind of car rental insurance for their holders.
But for most non-US citizens, it is very advisable to double check, if your car rental reservation is inclusive of car rental insurance - the best is full cover with CDW (check for the contract details - what is covered, coverage limits and conditions), otherwise you can get into the same situation as we got -  you might be unpleasantly surprised, that your car renal price would be much higher upon your arrival to the car rental company counter, than you expected.

If you make a search, you will discover several offers with full insurance cover and CDW included in the car rental price (without paying extra for your car rental insurance) - and this all inclusive price would be the same price or even lower than the plain rate you can get directly from the official car rental provider website, which usually offers price without the insurance included... (this is according to my own experience and I would be happy, if this situation got already better... e.g the car rental company behaves better to their customers and do not try to rip them off.)

It is very very advisable to book through one of these car rental brokers, who offer full cover and CDW included, rather than through the car rental company website, because they usually try to rip you off - they might want you to pay extra for this insurance, as it is great income for them...
And you have nothing to do with it, just pay for the insurance, otherwise you can get into big troubles - I think, that it is great extra business and income for the car rental companies - they do not explain to you about the insurance, so inexperienced people just eat this and pay them this huge money - it seems to me, as quite immoral from their side...
Resume - next month we were in Miami, Florida - we took our car from different company - not directly from their official website and the price we got from the broker was the same as we would get directly from the official company website, BUT we got from the broker full insurance cover with CDW included in the price - this offer was for non-US citizens only.

The rented cars were good at both locations (California and Florida) and we had very nice time in the USA.
