| Review of Fox Rent a Car® Orange County Car Rental |
DONT LET THERE LOWER CAR RENTAL PRICES FOOL YOU--I rented a car for a one way trip from San Francisco to Orange County, and attempted to save a bit of cash by using Fox (I had found an abandoned puppy, and the airlines wouldn't let me fly with him) . I didn't have any problem making the reservation through Travelocity, and the rental desk was located with all of the other rental desks at San Francisco International Airport. However, the moment I laid my eyes on the car, I felt trepidation--it was a Hyundai Elantra, and looked rather beat up, with numerous scratches, and small dents. When I got into the car, the odometer read 40,000 miles! Never in my life have I rented a car with more than 6,000-8,000 miles. Well, it seemed to drive ok back to my mother's home where I parked it for the night. During the drive home the next day the car's transmission slipped repeatedly, and it was gutless going over the Tejon Pass. I was actually nervous that it might not make it over the mountain. I arrived home, and planned to return it by 11:00 pm to John Wayne airport, the airport which I was told to return it to. My husband followed me to the airport, and lo and behold, NO FOX Rental there! It turns out they are located three or so miles away it Costa Mesa, and I didn't have time to make it there. Since we were past the turn in time for the day, we went home, and I called Customer Service who said I would have to pay an extra day's rental. I explained that the desk agent at SFO did not tell me that the rental agency was off site, and he replied with, "didn't you look at the address?" Well, who has ever paid any attention to the street address on the form, as one normally just follows the signs for rental car returns at the airport? Additionally, he said FOX is located off site to save the customer money. Then why are they on site at SFO? Bigger airport, larger rent payments than OC, wouldn't you think? FOX sure didn't save me any money, and I would never rent from them again, nor would I ever recommend any one rent from them no matter that they charge less. Somehow, you will end up paying more. |
