This is a warning to anyone considering to hire a car at Faro Airport from Hertz. We spent a beautiful 14 days in Algarve and our car hire was clearly the worst experience in otherwise fantastic trip. We were hiring cars from Hertz in other locations before and always got perfect service. Not so at Faro Airport. The car they tried to give us was not the model we booked, not even similar to it. We had to change three times and in the end gave up and drove away in a smelly, old car that was hardly safe or easy to drive. Although supposedly a non-smoking car, the smell of cigarettes was obvious. Seats were stained. Another surprise is on drop-off. You must return the car at a different place and they drive you to the airport in a bus, unlike originally stated in our booking. The staff is not friendly, as opposed to everyone else in southern Portugal. Do not recommend.
