Car Rental FAQ
I want to hire a car in Orlando - what license do I need?
If you would like to hire a car in Orlando, Florida - you have to be at least 18 years of age (as far as we know, there are no car rental companies, which would rent to persons under 18 years of age in Orlando). If you have US or Canadian driving license, then you should present this license during the car rental pick up. If you do not have US or Canadian driving license, it's necessary to bring your original driving license together with International driving permit/license.
Car rental companies sometimes accept foreign driving licenses without the International permit, if they are issued in english language (e.g. UK driving license, Australian driving license...), but as far as we know, according to law, foreign driving license has to be accompanied by International driving permit.
UPDATE 2013 - there is new law in Florida, that each person with non-US driver's license has to have International Driver's Permit, otherwise you can not legaly drive in Florida. BUT #1 - the Florida legislators made a mistake in this new law - it contradicts with International conventions, so the police does not enforce this (yet).
But #2 Car rental companies in Florida may be a bit confused with this change and they may refuse to rent a car without International Driver's Permit now... So, if you want to be on the safe side, bring the IDP with you anyway.
