Subject: Blue Lancer with damaged rear bumper
Review of National® Toronto Car Rental

I just returned from Toronto and had the same bad experience with National on Pearson Airport. I had a reservation on a compact car Versa but when I got there the agent insisted to give an upgrade for free for a midsize Mitsubishi Lancer  even though I  said Versa is fine. Filled out the paper and she hand over the key and said “ is that blue car over there” I asked is that all “Yes” Then I inspect (by myself) the car in a dim light area and car was parked with back near to a wall. Car was looking good and new. I start loading my baggage and then one agent said to hurry up and leave from there (didn’t know why that rush but now I know) Soon you start the car you have to drive 10 m then stop for 4 min (and wait INSIDE the car due to security issues!??!?!) and pass through other 2 security agents. Right after the last agent I stopped to get my GPS from the trunk then I noticed some damage to the right side of the rear bumper and I asked the agent if that shouldn’t be recorded? And said “Oh that’s OK must be recorded already on your rental agreement on comments” I looked at my agreement and yes there was some numbers and codes (big mistake!!!) I left without any other questions and satisfied that these guys are really professionals and everything was nice and easy. When I returned the car after few days the agent found the damage really quick (5 sec) and said I did that. I said no, that was there before and it was mentioned on my agreement on comments. He looked at that and said that’s the contract number that I signed and there is nothing related to the damage!!!

And “Sir we don’t rent to our customer damaged cars, you did that”

Fight with supervisor for 30 min try to explain her the whole situation but all she said was to contact claims dept because there was no records on that damage before renting the car…

The car run nice all time.

I wonder how many times they charge the same damage for each car, this issue must be investigated by some authority or media, because they cheat people....

Did someone else had the same issue with this blue Mitsubishi Lancer?

My advice do not rent from them or do a complete check by yourself and then they need to record in writing all and pictures dated and signed ...No joking!!!
