The car broke down within a couple of hours of pickup at NAP airport. Breakdown guy confirmed no clutch fluid. Car was undriveable. SIXT refused to deliver us replacement car, even though we were in the middle of nowhere. SIXT contact numbers were not usable from UK mobile phone (never got to the bottom of this). We had to go back to the airport by taxi to pick up replacement car at cost of €80. Returned replacement car filled with fuel at last motorway stop before airport and range showed within 5 km of what it had been when we picked it up.

SIXT charged credit card for €40 fuel, plus €13 admin charge and €16 refuelling charge, plus VAT, total over €70. They did this without first informing us. In fact, first we heard was on credit card bill, and then a bill from SIXT nearly 2 months after the charge.

Cost of taxi €80 was refunded some weeks later, but it looks like they want to recoup that by ripping us off with fuel charges. They say this was for fuel for the original car. What? When we had to lose half a day of our holiday because of their crappy car, and had to drive twice from the airport anyway, paying for the cost of the fuel the second time AS WELL?

And, they reckon they got €40 fuel into the first car, although we had only driven it about 40km from the airport. The replacement car, we drove around for the rest of the week and filled it up only once at a cost of only €45.50.

We will never use SIXT again and recommend others to steer well clear.
